Happy 2018 everyone! I was fortunate enough to ring in the New Year with some of my closest friends out in Park City, Utah. One of my friends has a family friend who lives out in Heber City for part of the year. Luckily they were not there for New Years and they let us stay in their beautiful home.
We were all pretty much beat by the time we got settled into the house. We decided to take it easy the first night, cooked ourselves a delicious dinner, and headed to bed early in preparation for our first day on the slopes.
This was not only my first trip to Utah, but it was also my first time skiing. I’ve tried snowboarding a couple times in high school. Let’s just say I spent most of my day on my butt. That’s why I was a bit nervous to try out skiing because I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Thank God I decided to take an all day lesson. I was in a small group of 4 students and my instructor, Marty, couldn’t have been more patient with us. She walk us through everything you need to know from getting into and out of our skis to making smooth turns down the mountain. Come 3:30 pm when my lesson was over I was pooped, but my confidence on skis is much higher than it is if I set foot on a snowboard again!
After a full day on the slopes, all I wanted to do was relax and nap, but there was no chance of that happening since it was New Years Eve. Instead we all got ready for a nice dinner at a steak house, Grub Steak Restaurant. We tried to go to a local bar afterwards, but there was no way we were paying $30 per person. Instead we rang in the New Year back at the house playing What Do You Meme? If you’ve never played before I highly recommend it. It’s such a fun game to play with a group of friends.
The next day everyone woke up incredibly sore, but excited to go out and explore downtown Park City. We grabbed some lunch at No Name Saloon and checked out the local stores. Even though it was in the 40s, it was nice enough to somehow walk around without our coats on.
I skied one more time before leaving. This time Joe got to ski with me. I am so grateful for how patient he was since I was skiing down trails other than the bunny hill for the first time. I’d say I did pretty well for the most part. That is until I would come to some trails that were just too steep and I unfortunately fell. No serious injuries though, just a few bruises.
We ended our trip with one more meal out at The Spur Bar and Grill where Joe and I split this amazing pizza. It was called The Trip and had garlic roasted mushrooms, brie, Alfredo sauce, truffle oil, lavender honey and arugula. I wish I could get this exact pizza here in NYC.
Overall I had an amazing time with my friends, learning to ski, and exploring a new city. I would go back in a heart beat!
How did you ring in the new year? Comment below!
Sincerely,
K
