I had some free time this past weekend and decided to start a Poshmark closet. Poshmark is fairly new to me and I’m sure it might be new to many of you. There is still a lot for me to learn, but I will continue sharing my updates as needed.
What is Poshmark?
It’s a completely new way for people to online shop. As the largest social commerce marketplace for fashion, people are able to buy and sell clothes from their closets. A.K.A. you can shop other people’s closets or sell items you no longer want from your closet. It’s the perfect solution for selling those impulse buys you never wore.
How does it work?
As the seller, you upload pictures of an item you want to sell. Then, add a detailed description, the size, and the condition of the item. Lastly, you add the original price of the item and the price you would like to sell it for. Note, Poshmark takes a $2.95 commission on all sales under $15. It takes a 20% commission on any sale above $15.
A great way to increase your odds of making a sale is to join a Posh Party. Posh Parties are virtual buying and selling events that happen in the app. You can browse, buy, and even list together with your friends.
What happens once a sale is made?
Once a sale is made, Poshmark provides the seller with an expedited USPS Priority Mail shipping label for a flat rate of $6.49. This $6.49 is charged to the shopper for every item they buy. Once the seller ships the order, it should be delivered within 1-3 business days. Poshmark will also email the buyer tracking information so they can track their shipment.
As the shopper, when you check out you are automatically charged $6.49 per item to cover the cost of the shipping label for the seller. However, if a buyer is using a bundling feature to buy multiple items from one seller, they only have to pay the $6.49 shipping fee once. Then the seller packages and ships all of the bundled items in one box.
Tips for Sellers:
- Take great pictures
- Channel a particular style on your closet (to help make it a memorable experience)
- Research what is selling well and listen to customer feedback
- Compare prices on the platform
- Be social on the app
- Be responsive
- List new items daily and re-share your items frequently
- Be organized
- Share other users’ listings
- List items 10-20% more than you’re willing to sell them for
- Be prepared to work hard
I currently have 13 items in my closet and plan to add more, but if you want to check out what I have so far visit my URL here or follow my on the app: @kelleyagibson.
If you have a Poshmark closet share your handle in the comments.
Sincerely,
K
